20th Century Icons

Published

Pow! Gauguin to Warhol: 20th Century Icons from the Albright-Knox Art Gallery is the show to see to experience the wide range of 20th century art produced during the transformative century. There are first-rate works of art in the major exhibition, hosted locally by The San Diego Museum of Art. Though it will be up through January 27, 2015, don’t procrastinate, because chances are good that a return visit will be in order. Picasso, Matisse, O’Keefe, Dali, Kahlo, Toulouse-Lautrec, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Pollock, Rothko, Krasner, de Kooning, Motherwell, Lichtenstein, and Warhol — all right here. The exhibit is a major undertaking that sets out to highlight influential aesthetic and philosophical themes of the giant and sprawling 20th century. To have some notion of where we are and where we have been, take time to absorb the art or, better yet, let the art absorb you. (619.232.7931, www.sdmart.org)    DARLENE G. DAVIES
