DMCC Welcomes Four-Star General

Published

A day with General Michael Hayden, former director of the CIA and NSA

On March 21, the fourth annual SEAL-Naval Special Warfare Family Foundation (NSWFF) fundraiser takes places at the Del Mar Country Club with guest speaker four-star General Michael Hayden, former director of the CIA and NSA. Hayden’s time serving during some of the most intense moments of global terrorism in the last two decades, coupled with his nearly 40 years of active service in the Air Force, have made him one of the most influential political and military figures on the talk circuit. Now retired from both organizations, Hayden spends his days speaking and teaching about his time in a hostile political era, and the current state of affairs both domestic and international. He will bring his unique perspective and inside knowledge to the event that will pay homage to, and raise funds for, San Diego’s Navy SEALs and their families.

Currently a principal at the Chertoff Group and a distinguished visiting professor at the George Mason University School of Public Policy, Hayden’s influence continues to stretch far and wide. Aside from sitting on several boards, the Intelligence and National Security Alliance awarded Hayden the 29th annual William Oliver Baker Award in 2013, and this last year saw him undertake the role of visiting professor in intelligence studies at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. Recently, Hayden’s condemnation of CIA torture techniques revealed in current White House reports has made him a prominent figure in many major publications and news shows.

Hayden will be one of just many notable celebrities and philanthropists on hand to pay tribute to the SEALs and the Special Warfare Family Foundation. As their motto states, “taking care of their family while they protect ours,” the NSW and its event will help to continue the support of these specialized troops and their families directly affected by deployment, injury, and more. Having their families cared for while they are away lessens the strain SEALs feel while on deployment, resulting in more focused training, exercise, and mission fulfillment. SEAL-NSWFF programs include Family Resiliency and Services, NSW Kids, Bereavement Support, Transition Assistance, Counter Deployment, Global Outreach, Emergency Assistance, and Wounded Warriors.

The full day of events will commence with breakfast at 9am and a round of scramble golf at 10:30am, followed by a cocktail reception and silent auction from 4:30-6:30pm. An elegant dinner, speaking engagements, live performances, and a live auction will round out the night. Last year’s event hosted
400 guests and raised more than $1.3 million in support of the foundation’s programs. (619.344.0344, ext. 715, www.supportourwarriors.org)   RYAN THOMAS
