Sounds of Hope for Children

On October 10, Rob Thomas, multi-Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and recording artist, will take the stage at a private concert to raise funds for Rady Children’s Hospital’s Neurotherapy Center. The 10th Sounds of Hope concert, presented by the Carmel Valley Auxiliary Unit of Rady Children’s Hospital, will build on the success of previous events, says Edith Smith, who along with Lynne Carlson, is event co-chair. The group has presented top musical talent and raised more than $4 million to benefit numerous Rady Children’s Hospital departments.

Doctors at Rady’s Neurotherapy Center perform more than 600 neurosurgeries annually and provide restorative therapies to pediatric neurology patients that are not available anywhere else in the U.S. Treatments include pre-operative evaluation, surgical intervention, and pre- and post-operative care, explains Smith.

Illumina has generously donated the use of their spectacular amphitheater again this year. “We are delighted to support Rady Children’s Hospital and to be a part of Sounds of Hope for Children,” says Karen Possemato, Illumina’s chief of staff. The company’s mission is to improve human health by unlocking the power of the genome. As the global leader in DNA sequencing and array-based technologies, its products are used for applications in the life sciences, oncology, reproductive health, agriculture and other emerging segments.

In keeping with the casual flavor of the outdoor event, dinner will be a walk-around affair with multiple food stations and tray-passed items. Multiple bars will keep thirsty guests happy and there will be a signature cocktail, as always, notes Smith.

“Even after the concert ends, the Sounds of Hope for Children party will continue. Guests are invited to stay on for an after party with music by D.J. Mike. “All that dancing will surely give people an appetite, so there will be late night snacks available for revelers to enjoy,” says Smith.

The event promises to be a sellout, as it has been in years past. Tickets are $175 per person. (858.229.4227, www.rchacarmelvalley.org)
