Nov. 11

The Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial Ceremony on Veterans Day takes place from 2-3pm at Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial, at 6905 La Jolla Scenic Drive South, La Jolla, CA 92037. The event will honor San Diego native Ted Williams, a World War II and Korean War pilot and Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame baseball player. The event’s commentator is Dick Enberg, Hall of Fame sports broadcaster and 9-time National Sportscaster of the Year. Keynote speaker is Lieutenant General L. A. Craparotta, Commanding General, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF), based at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. Additional appearances are slated from the San Diego Marine Corps Band and  Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Color Guard, along with a flyover by World War II historic warbirds from Montgomery and Gillespie Air Fields. Old Town Trolley will provide complimentary shuttle service to and from the Memorial from the nearby Mt. Soledad Presbyterian Church parking lot (6551 Soledad Mountain Road, La Jolla, CA, 92037).

The Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial is one of the most unique veterans memorials in the United States. More than 4,200 individual veteran tributes, embedded on black granite plaques, are mounted onto 11 curved walls and honor United States veterans, living and deceased, from Revolutionary times up to today. The Memorial stands high on La Jolla’s Mt. Soledad, offering panoramic views of San Diego, the mountains, the Pacific Ocean and Mexico. soledadmemorial.com
