Upscale Entertaining

Great Rooms
Kitchen Expo

This entertainment room is at a home at the Yellowstone Club in Big Sky Montana, a private residential community set amid the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains. Rick Fahmie, president and senior designer at Kitchen Expo, deftly designed the ceiling detail and cabinets. Fahmie transformed a challenging ceiling element into beauty: Two large steel I-beams, perpendicular to each other and without symmetry, could not be hidden. His ceiling detail conceals them, and creates a focal point in the room — the only space within the entire two-story condo that does not have a view of the ski slopes, nor any windows. Fahmie chose a hard-to-find burl wood (the same style that’s used in Rolls-Royce vehicles) for the center panels, with a different style of burl wood for the ceiling beams.

Materials Chosen:

  • Cabinet doorframes, interior doorframes, and doorjambs are tropical olivewood stained to accent with the burl wood center panels
  • Fahmie designed “The Brielle” door style nearly a decade ago, and it is Kitchen Expo’s bestselling traditional-style door
  • After completion, woodwork receives the finest urethane finish available, which can last virtually forever
  • Room design, interior door design, and millwork installation, all by Kitchen Expo

Happy Hearth

Designers Alison Dorvillier and Lauren Brogger of Inplace Studio created a striking yet welcoming kitchen with the use of clean lines and touches of vintage reclaimed wood throughout. An antique iron “fire back” serves as a focal point behind the range top, while a built-in banquette breakfast nook opens up the space. A live edge plank wood bar top brings nature in, as do reclaimed wood beams and a barn door of vintage plank wood that leads to the pantry. Vintage-style glass blown lighting perfectly complements and illuminates the space.

Resources:

  • Cabinets are Brookhaven and Elmwood by Inplace Studio
  • Range is by Wolf
  • Fridge and freezer are by Sub-Zero
  • Backsplash is Waterworks Archive 3×6 Field in clear crackle from Cabochon

Design Tips:

  • Make a medium kitchen live large by paneling appliances to blend in to cabinetry
  • Create architectural interest with vintage beams

Personal Haven

The client’s request was to have an elegant, peaceful, and classically designed master bedroom suite. She knew the color scheme that she wanted, so collaboration with the designers at We-R-Home started with the selection of the perfect textiles and textures to bring her vision to life. The room flows effortlessly from the custom, motorized window treatments with waterfall-style cornices, drapery in a couture wool and silk damask, custom crafted chenille upholstered bed bench, and geometric silk fabric on the carved wood side chairs to bedside tables in a dove gray painted finish, and tailored and elegant custom bedding. The stunning piece
of art over the fireplace is one of the client’s personal treasures that found its perfect home in the master suite.

  • Window treatment fabric and manufacturing from We-R-Fabrics
