South Coast Plaza marks a milestone
Posted on March 29, 2017
Who knew that a fashion empire would flourish where fields of lima beans once grew? South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with events, exhibits, and collaborations that reflect its stylish heritage and fashionable future. The center has partnered with luxury brands including Brunello Cucinelli, Gucci, Marni, Michael Kors, Roger Vivier, Salvatore Ferragamo, Tod’s, Weekend Max Mara, and Ermenegildo Zegna for special anniversary merchandise and limited edition products exclusive to the boutiques of South Coast Plaza.
Developed by C. J. Segerstrom & Sons, the plaza opened on March 15, 1967, and has since grown to 2.8 million square feet of retail and restaurants. Anchored by Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Macy’s, South Coast Plaza is also known for The Collection, its roster of luxury brands beginning with Courrèges in 1975. This year, it welcomes such Orange County exclusives as Dior Homme and Stella McCartney, and is the only West Coast location for Gianvito Rossi and Aquazzura.
For the past 13 years, South Coast Plaza has partnered with The Country Friends on Art of Fashion, a luncheon and runway show featuring the fall-winter collections of top American and European designers and retailers. Maggie Bobileff and Denise Hug chair this year’s event on September 14, at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe, which honors philanthropist and businesswoman Jenny Craig for her commitment to community.
