Del Mar Village’s Taste of Del Mar event once again welcomed a sold-out crowd, which enjoyed samples and drinks from an impressive list of area restaurants including Kitchen 1540, Prepkitchen, The Lanai, and many more. The Ranch & Coast team was on hand to collect votes for attendees’ favorite dishes and sips. This year’s Tastiest Taste award goes to Brigantine Seafood & Oyster Bar, which served mini carne asada tacos with salsa fresca, cheddar cheese, and avocado salsa. “It was fun because we cooked the carne asada at the event, so our sample was very fresh,” says General Manager Dave Tingle, who notes that The Brig has participated in the event every year since it started. “Although we are not directly in The Village, it’s fun to come set up and be among all the other restaurants,” he says, adding, “What an honor to be chosen by the attendees out of so many great restaurants.” 858.481.1166, brigantine.com

Superior Sip honors go to Pegasus Estate Winery, which treated guests to its 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2016 Sauvignon Blanc in Coco Rose boutique atop Del Mar Plaza. Located in the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley in the town of Solvang, the winery is helmed by Peggy and Michael Crowley, who, coincidentally enough, went on their first date to an upscale wine tasting event in Del Mar. The Crowleys’ wines are consistently recognized as Best in Show “because the quality of our genuinely handcrafted wines aged in French oak stand alone in a crowded field of mass-produced wines that have no soul and no character,” explains Peggy. In spite of their many accolades, Pegasus still produces “single vineyard” estate wines in extremely limited, small lot releases of less than 500 cases per varietal, “which tracks with our core values of keeping our hands on the vines and creating genuine liquid works of art that are uniquely refined and elegant,” Peggy says. Pegasus wines are available at Encinitas’ Meritage Wine Market and Carlsbad’s Texas Wine & Spirits, and are on the wine lists of Pamplemousse Grille, Sbicca, Pacifica Del Mar, and the Brigantine. pegasusestatewinery.com   Mia S.
