When Dana Dinerman was diagnosed with breast cancer seven years ago, she soon found that there were few sophisticated options when it came to swimsuits for women who have had mastectomies. So she started Hulabelle, a stylish swimwear line featured at last year’s Fashion Week San Diego and this year’s FWSD Spring Showcase. The brand will again hit the runway on October 13 at the 2018 FWSD Designer Runway Show at Lux Art Institute in Encinitas.

Though initially designed as post-mastectomy swimwear, Dinerman says the sexy but comfortable suits appeal to all women. The Hulabelle halter, for instance, is a favorite because customers can change it up themselves for more or less coverage. Made of quality Italian fabric with SPF 50 sun protection, it also has pockets for extra padding.

Still battling breast cancer, Dinerman supports nonprofits including the Young Survival Coalition, dedicated to young women (40 and under) diagnosed with the disease. Her website and blog (daycurve.blogspot.com) provide places where women can share their stories of struggle and survival. “You don’t know what will show up on the next scan,” she says, “but in the meantime, you live your life.” For Dinerman, that life includes being an advocate for others. 619.370.1976, hulabelle.com
