On Friday, October 23, Prince Albert II of Monaco will be awarded the Roger Revelle Prize from Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego for his efforts to promote scientific research and the protection of the environment on a global scale. The Roger Revelle Prize is named for the UC San Diego founder and former Scripps director who was a world-renowned scientist and is considered one of the true pioneers of climate change research. At 5pm, Prince Albert will present a lecture focusing on his global scientific expeditions and and experiences related to the science of climate change in the oceans and on land. Scripps Institution of Oceanography will then host a reception and dinner gala at 6pm. Individual tickets start at $500. Proceeds support the Roger Revelle Leadership Fund to help recruit and retain the most outstanding students, faculty, and researchers to the institution — an objective that was always paramount to Roger Revelle when he was Scripps director.
