We asked several San Diego notables to share their favorite things about the beloved town we call home, and their interpretations turned out to be quite varied and personal. Here are some of the things that make our celebrity guests tick.

Best Jewelry Store: Antiques on Kettner (Little Italy) — Perfect place to find wonderful costume jewelry to accessorize any outfit. Their jewelry is affordable, looks real, and has a unique feel.
Best Resale Shop: Frock You in San Diego’s University Heights area. Vintage clothes are the new way to go green — fabulous finds for every occasion.
Best Personal Trainer: Mike Jensen — Mike owns Science Fitness, which is in the Kensington neighborhood of San Diego, and he helped my husband lose 90 pounds. Mike is a great trainer and has a great gym. Who wouldn’t think Mike is great for how he helped Jerry?
Favorite Local Tourist Attraction: Balboa Park — I have visited all major U.S. cities and many of the mid-size ones and I think that no other U.S. city has an urban park as beautiful and as spectacular as Balboa Park. From the lawn bowlers to the orchid society, the museums to the puppet shows, the carousel to the California Tower, there is no other urban park that has what we have. I visit Balboa Park for at least a part of every weekend. It is my great escape — a land of enchantment.
Best Annual Gala: San Diego Center For Children. Yup, even though I work at the center I think we have the most fun gala. We love the special kids we help and it shows in our gala. On the evening of Thursday, May 10, we are going to have the biggest birthday party in San Diego because the San Diego Center for Children has turned 125 years old this year. Mark your calendars!
Best Museum Exhibition: San Diego Museum of Art, El Greco to Dali Exhibit — this past year this was the most astounding collection of great art in a San Diego exhibition — the beauty and strength of the exhibition’s paintings brought crowds of visitors. Who is not moved by an El Greco painting or surprised by what Dali has on his mind, and did I mention the Picassos that were part of the exhibit? Spectacular.
Best Tamale: Cuatros Milpas in San Diego’s Barrio Logan neighborhood. Homemade and delicious tamales, but be prepared to wait in line for 30 minutes to get one. Their tortillas are made right in front of you too, and their rice and beans are my favorite in town.
