Amadeus 2008
January 19 marks the date for Mainly Mozart’s Amadeus 2008 gala, set to take place at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine. Chaired by Alexandra Pearson and Arlene Esgate, the event will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Mainly Mozart Festival and raise funds for the organization’s educational outreach programs as well as the 2008 Festival in June at the renovated historic Balboa Theatre in downtown San Diego. Guests will enjoy a cocktail reception, hors d’oeuvres provided by JRDN Restaurant, and a Tommy Bahama mojito bar. In addition, many of San Diego County’s designers including Joni Alpert, Katherine Ward, Brindan Byrne, and Sally Thornton, to name a few, will welcome guests at dinner tables they have decorated. The night will conclude with string quartet selections. Angel tickets are $425 and include an Angel Party at a private residence on January 6. Friend tickets are $325. Las Patronas — Grant Givers
Las Patronas held a luncheon at La Jolla Country Club to welcome new members Michelle Ganon, Liz Gotfredson, Megan Heine, Elaine Murphy, and Marlena Poulin. Those in attendance also heard for the first time that the theme for 2008’s Jewel Ball will be 1920s Speakeasy, with Caroline Nierenberg serving as ball chair. Las Patronas is committed to funding the critical capital needs of nonprofits throughout San Diego County. Most recently, in response to the wildfires that devastated San Diego County in October, Las Patronas awarded a grant of approximately $80,000 to the UCSD Regional Burn Center for the acquisition of a Total Contact system for the treatment of burns to the face, neck, and chest. "Funding this grant to UCSD Regional Burn Center goes to the core of our mission," says Las Patronas president Barbara Mulligan, "and fulfills a crucial need in San Diego. We wanted to aid victims of the firestorm, but this will also help San Diegans year-round for a long time to come." (www.laspatronas.org) — Mia Stefanko
