"It’s my first fashion show," said John Reed, Burnham Institute’s president and CEO. "I can’t wait for the next one." The esteemed scientist kicked off a fashion show that helped to raise more than $27,000 for research into women’s cancers. Joyce and Craig Grosvenor hosted the event, which featured the spring collection of international designer Yigal Azrouel. Azrouel’s sister Miriam Smotrich co-chaired with Muffy Walker. The Grosvenor’s 12-year-old daughter, Dakota, made her catwalk debut. — Andrea Naversen, photos by Bob Stefanko
  Triple Threat
Dancing with the Stars’ Jane Seymour does more than the paso doble. The actress is also an accomplished artist. Seymour recently appeared at a reception featuring her oil paintings and watercolors at the Rancho Santa Fe home of Mario and Dragana Simic of Simic Galleries. A portion of the proceeds benefitted Kids Korps USA. Seymour was accompanied by her dance partner, Tony Dovolani, who confided that waltzing with Seymour "was like a dream come true." — Andrea Naversen, photos by Bob Stefanko

Minding The Arts Gala
Minding the Arts continues to support artistic endeavors in San Diego. In 2007, approximately 40 organizations will perform 100 times in The Neurosciences Institute auditorium, with many free of charge to the public. Some of the costs are offset by funds raised at the annual gala, now in its fifth year. Guests enjoyed a reception on the rooftop terrace of the Laboratory Building and a concert in the auditorium. Linda Satz chaired, and Merle and Teresa Fischlowitz were honorary chairs. — Darlene G. Davies, photos by Paul Andrews
  D’Vine Time
Guests sipped fine wine and sampled appetizers from top area restaurants at Mingei International Museum to benefit Walden Family Services, which provides foster care to children with special needs. Rita Szczotka chaired the event with County Assessor Gregory J. Smith serving as auctioneer. Smith cracked jokes and cajoled guests during the live auction, helping to raise more than $78,000 for foster kids and their families.
