A Winter Fantasy
Debby Jacobs again chaired the La Jolla Playhouse’s annual gala. This year, she declared it a "black and white ball" and most of the 600 guests arrived in chic shades of silver, black, and winter white. A festive cocktail party began the event, which also featured a high-rolling live auction with fabulous packages including trips and walk-on play roles, an energetic performance by Tony Award-winning singer Patti LuPone, and a late-night "Solstice Soiree" dessert and dance party, with music by Zowie Bowie. — Paul Andrews

Symphony Stars On Stage
Symphony Stars is a group of San Diego women who enjoy classical music, understand the importance of philanthropy, and wish to get to know the orchestra from an insider’s perspective. Their fall event at Copley Symphony Hall gave approximately 120 guests the opportunity to enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres, dinner on stage catered by Pamplemousse Grille, and entertainment provided by a woodwind quintet of Symphony members that included John Lorge, Valentin Martchev, Dwight Parry, Sheryl Renk, and Sarah Tuck.

  Under The Tuscan Sun
Vista Hill’s 17th annual gala took place in the Aventine Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla, which was filled with the colors of Tuscany — golds, rusts, and long-stemmed sunflowers. Dee Ammon served as gala chair, and Ingrid B. Hibben received the 2006 In My Back Yard Award for her contributions to Vista Hill and the community. The event netted $188,000 for Vista Hill programs, which have been serving families in San Diego since 1957.

Childhelp Fantasia
In 1959, Sara O’Meara and Yvonne Fedderson found Japanese-American children abandoned on the streets of Tokyo; thus was born Childhelp. The San Diego chapter of Childhelp held its 20th Annual Holiday Fantasia at the La Costa Resort and Spa. With honorary chairs Ray and Daran Grimm and chair Jo Ely at the helm, the event brought in scores of women who shopped at the ballroom-sized boutique, bid at the silent auctions, and enjoyed lunch, a live auction, and fashion show by Gretchen Productions.
