Glamour On The Go
Gone are the days of hitting the gym in frumpy sweats and mismatched T-shirts. Today’s workout wear is fashionable, flattering, and fit to take you from the yoga studio to your lunch date. Here are a few local finds. — Mia Stefanko, photography by Vincent Knakal, hair and makeup by Paula Mayer,

John Camp, Nancy Camp, and Lauren Camp

Fashionable Family Affair
They were just kids when their mom, Nancy Camp, started Moonbeams children’s boutique 15 years ago. Now those grown-up kids are minding the store. Lauren Camp and her brother John manage the new Moonbeams at Paseo Delicias and La Granada in Rancho Santa Fe, which opened last month. Lauren runs the women’s side, carrying such lines as Cynthia Steffe, Trina Turk, and Margaret O’Leary, while John offers Nat Nast, B.SON, and Robert Graham for men. The boutique also stocks Donald J. Pliner shoes for men and women, jewelry by local designer Sophie & Chloe, handbags, and children’s wear. Special events and trunk shows are in the works. The siblings go on buying trips with their mom, and dad, James — not to be left out — helps with the books. "It’s fun," says Lauren about running the family business, "because we all get to do it together." (858/759-5280)

Bridal Bar
From linens to lighting, calligraphy to cake toppers, the Bridal Bar, set to open this month in Bird Rock, is a one-stop shop for the bride-to-be. The new venture teams Anseth Page Richards, named San Diego’s best wedding and event planner in 2006 by Ranch & Coast readers, with Regina Bagdasarian, creator of the luxury wedding expo Bride Fest, and Harmony Walton, owner of L.A.’s Bridal Bar and West Coast producer of Lifetime TV’s Get Married. The partners have pulled together top event professionals to make wedding planning a piece of cake. Brides can sip Champagne while browsing through a "bar menu" of products and services: florals and favors, hair and makeup artists, rentals, and even ring pillows. Staff will help them compile a beginning budget, choose a location, and book appointments with vendors. "Our goal is to help them enjoy the process stress free," says Richards, "so they can stay married, happily ever after." Richards is used to the pressure. Last December, she arranged the last-minute La Jolla nuptials of former supermodel Niki Taylor with racecar driver Burney Lamar. Said Lamar in In Style Weddings, "The wedding was right out of a movie." (858/459-1685, www.bridalbar.com)

Barbara Mulligan, Maree Mossmer, and Carolina Herrera

Herrera Debut
Dressed in a signature white shirt, pearls, and Manolos, designer Carolina Herrera lent a classy touch to her store opening in Fashion Valley, a benefit for Las Patronas. Guests sipped Champagne while admiring luxury goods from CH Carolina Herrera, the Venezuelan-born designer’s collection of clothing and accessories for men and women. Herrera is among a long list of upscale retailers that have chosen Fashion Valley as their first San Diego County venue, including Barney’s New York, Hermes, Jimmy Choo, Just Cavalli, M Missoni, Michael Kors, and Tourneau. Local stylistas are also looking forward to the trendy H & M, Juicy Couture, and True Religion. It seems shopping is more popular than Shamu. Eighteen million people visit Fashion Valley each year, more than SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo, and other San Diego County attractions combined.

Denim Drive
The M Collection Clothing Boutiques, with locations in Carlsbad on State Street and Leucadia on North Coast Highway 101, are hosting an event titled Swap Your Jeans for Teens on January 10-13 to benefit San Diego-based Care House, which works with less fortunate children in San Diego County. In a continued effort to help homeless teens throughout North County receive shelter, clothing, and opportunity, The M Collection encourages shoppers to bring in a pair of gently worn jeans for donation to Care House youth. In return, you’ll receive a 25 percent discount on a new pair of premium denim.

Shape Up
Known for technical fabrics, functional design, and, perhaps most important, a flattering shape, Lululemon Athletica opened its first San Diego area showroom last month in Del Mar. A spokesman for the Canadian-based apparel company says San Diego’s active lifestyle is a good fit for the company’s focus on a "healthy, balanced, fun-filled way of life." To that end, the showroom will partner with fitness clubs and yoga studios to offer classes, clinics, and seminars on health-related topics. Designs feature flat waistbands, chafe-free seams, and four-way stretch, and they’re so comfy you’ll be tempted to wear your Lulus long after your workout is done. The Lululemon showroom is open Friday through Sunday, with plans to expand its hours in the months ahead. More stores are in the works. (858/ 847-9435, www.lululemon.com)
