Spring Fling
Helen Woodward Animal Center's 18th annual Spring Fling brought in a new wind. Arriving from New Orleans as guest of honor was the world-renowned artist George Rodrigue, creator of the Blue Dog, whose image hypnotizes passersby from his gallery on Bourbon Street. Fitting, since the center took in 145 animals from the wreckage of Katrina. Guests in the Blue Dog Lounge got to work, immediately bidding in the silent auction, then grazing among the 20 booths representing eateries from all over North County until it was time to dine, dance, and bid some more. Rodrigue produced a painting and commemorative poster for the event.

Lux After Dark
Lux Art Institute hosted Lux After Dark at the Rancho Santa Fe home of Stuart and Karen Tanz. The event, which honored Ivan Gayler and was honorarily chaired by Linda Brandes, featured cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, followed by a silent and live auction and a plated dinner catered by Four Seasons Foods, served on the grounds of the estate, which overlooks the San Elijo lagoon. Guests then danced the night away to the music of Left 4 Dead.

2006 Monopoly Night Gala
The American Heart Association's Monopoly Night Gala helped raise funds to fight America's number one and number three killers: heart disease and stroke. Research funded by the American Heart Association has yielded or contributed to many important innovations - including CPR, life-extending drugs (including clot-busters), pacemakers, bypass surgery, the heart-lung machine, and surgical techniques to repair heart defects. The event, presented by The EastLake Company, took place at the Hotel del Coronado. - Jane Shiomi, photos by S. McCoy

Partner With A Player
The San Diego Symphony's Partner with a Player program has become so successful that only a baker's dozen of "orphan" musicians remain. The program encourages philanthropic folks to sponsor a musician of their choice. The Symphony recently celebrated the program with an evening that began with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, continued with a concert during which the sponsors sat with the players on stage, and ended with a dinner catered by Pamplemousse Grille.
