Cindy and Larry Bloch with Linda and Glenn Palmedo-Smith

The Hungry Woman Leaves Viewers Happily Sated
A select crowd turned out at the home of Larry and Cindy Bloch to see the first ever showing of The Hungry Woman, a new movie written and directed by local resident Glenn Palmedo-Smith. The semi-biographical movie chronicles the lives of a migrant worker family living in San Diego, and is set against the backdrop of the infamous Ian Spiro case. "When I was in the construction field as a developer I would go to migrant worker camps," says Palmedo-Smith. "I got to know the people very well and the struggle and hardship that is their lives. When the Ian Spiro case occurred there was a tie in to one of these camps, and it became a natural thing for me to tell the story of this woman — [Spiro’s] maid — who was affected by it." The poignant bilingual film, which was shot on location in various areas around San Diego, including San Marcos and Rancho Santa Fe, will begin showing in 1,000 theaters this summer, with more to follow.
