Art Auction
The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego
must have been very pleased with the at-capacity attendance and spirited bidding at its fifth benefit art auction. Christie's Los Angeles conducted the
live auction, which is a much-awaited biennial attraction. A silent auction, comprised of a wide range of visual art pieces, accompanied the main event. Most importantly, a sizeable amount of money was raised for the museum, and art collectors were pleased with their new acquisitions. - Darlene G. Davies, photos by S. McCoy
  Spinoff Auction
There was an outpouring of love and gratitude for Dr. John Trombold, director of the Scripps Cancer Center, Stevens Division, at the 15th annual Spinoff Auction. Trombold has served at Scripps for 43 years and inspired to become a physician by his own teenage experience with illness. The evening's auction and gala, titled And All That Jazz, as an acknowledgment of his love of jazz, was a tribute to his years of commitment and dedication to the treatment and, hopefully, the eventual eradication of cancer. - Nanette Martin, photos by S. Guests enjoyed silent and live auctions and appetizers paired with fine wines by local chefs including Pierre Albaladejo of Four Seasons Resort Aviara and Paul McCabe of J. Taylor's Restaurant at L'Auberge Del Mar, among others. - Jane Shiomi, photos by S. McCoy
10th Annual Hats Off To Children
What better cause than making sure our county's children are afforded the best possible medical care? Local broadcast journalist Andrea Naversen was one of the women who, ten years ago, spearheaded the first Hats Off to Children event to raise money for, and honor, the efforts of Children's Hospital. At the event, put on by the Del Mar unit of the Children's Hospital Auxiliary, Naversen appeared as guest speaker, while Sandra Maas emceed. Sarena Talbert and Rebecca Klein chaired the luncheon. - Sparkle Stiff, photos by Jennifer Nelson
