Lux After Dark
Lux Art Institute’s annual fundraiser took place at the Rancho Santa Fe estate
of Linda Brandes. This year’s theme, Lux — Just About to Bloom, captured the
colors of spring, and guests enjoyed cocktails, appetizers by Jeffrey Strauss of Pamplemousse Grille, tours of the art collections, and auctions with items such as vacation stays in Shanghai, Montana, Cannes, and Puerto Vallarta. The gala, chaired by Karen Tanz, raised over $290,000 to fund both the institution’s programming and education outreach, the Valise Project.

Cinco De Mayo Gala
With every passing year, the Rancho Santa Fe Community Center gala outdoes the prior year’s. This year, the Mariachis, Folklorico dancers, delectable appetizers, the joyful gathering under the tent for dinner, dancing, and live auctioneering — all blended to make it an event to remember. Chairs Leslie DeGoler and Allison Stratton, title sponsor Jet Source, and a highly capable and dedicated gala committee and board of trustees made the celebration a stunning success that raised about $250,000.

11th Annual Meet The Chefs Of Del Mar
Casa de Amparo’s annual fundraising culinary extravaganza took place at the Hilton Del Mar. Guests enjoyed live entertainment by Eddy Coastal, along with samples of signature dishes from 15 Del Mar restaurants, complimented with a generous selection of wines generously provided by John Parker and Young’s Market/The Estates Group. A silent auction and opportunity drawings helped raise funds to provide quality care for abused, neglected, and abandoned children throughout San Diego County.

Up! Up! And Away!
"Because of you, we are off and soaring!" said Sally B. Thornton, honorary chair of a fashion show and luncheon to help build a new $20 million Ronald McDonald House near Rady Children’s Hospital. Jacki Unger and Pam Plotkin co-chaired the event at The US Grant. Leonard Simpson of Fashion Forward produced the spring fashion show. But it was four-year-old Cassandra Junkin, a young leukemia patient, who stole the show, touching hearts and spurring donations to benefit the charity.

  Art Alive
The San Diego Museum of Art threw a weekend full of parties to mark its annual Art Alive floral demonstration. A Champagne celebration for honorary committee members and VIP guests featured live music and food by chef Bernard Guillas of the Marine Room. Guests admired the creations of dozens of flower arrangers whose creations matched works of art on display. Audrey Geisel, one of the event’s and museum’s most generous donors, was there, alongside honorary chairs Ken Widder and Jacki Johnson.
