Mercury Rising
Turn up the heat this spring with cool metal accents. But be wary of over-accessorizing — these items are meant to kick it up a notch, not take you over the edge. — Mia Stefanko, photo by Vincent Knakal

May Flowers
It’s no surprise that as the chill wears off, everything is coming up roses in fashion this spring. Sweet, feminine items reign supreme, whether worn head to toe or as accent pieces. Here’s a sampling of what’s abloom. — Mia Stefanko, photo by Vincent Knakal

Not Your Daughter’s Jeans
On May 17 from 1-8pm, Icons Boutique presents an in-store trunk show featuring the ever-popular Tummy Tuck Jeans by Not Your Daughter’s Jeans. And who wouldn’t want to look slimmer and sexier in their jeans? Tummy Tuck Jeans promise to flatten the tummy and lift the rear, allowing you to wear one size smaller. The trunk show event will feature the line’s spring style, with the option to preorder the fall collection. (760/632-7766) — Jane Shiomi

Fashion And Justice For All
Perhaps the only thing better than a good-fitting pair of jeans is when they’re perfectly fitted for a good cause. To honor Sexual Assault Awareness Month (April), marketing agency Consciously Social collaborated with artists and designers on Jeans for Justice 2007 — a unique campaign that "fuses art, fashion, and philanthropy by putting new meaning into America’s favorite clothing staple," explains agency co-owner Jessica Johnson. Original and wearable denim art will be featured at a fashion show and cocktail reception at Bernard Gardens on Saturday, May 5, with proceeds benefiting the Center for Community Solutions. Along with a trunk show, film screenings, and live music, a silent auction will provide people an opportunity to bid on customized pieces. Jeans for Justice stems from an overthrown rape conviction case where an Italian court cited "it is common knowledge... jeans cannot even be partly removed without the effective help of the person wearing them."
