The Magna Carta
While four copies of the original Magna Carta authorized by King John in 1215 survive, there were reissues in later years that made changes to the original text. The copy seen here from 1297 belongs to Ross Perot, who purchased it in 1984 at auction. Next month, his foundation will sell it for as much as $30 million at Sotheby’s in New York.
