Monte Carlo In Casablanca
Monte Carlo in Casablanca at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego attracted glamourous guests, who arrived through a colorful Moroccan market and met Rick at the Blue Parrot Club, inspired by the classic Humphrey Bogart film Casablanca. They then dined at Rick’s Place, a ’40s-style nightclub and casino. The menu was Moroccan, with music and dancing following dinner. Gail and George Knox served as co-chairs, and a formidable group of supporters served on the honorary committee.

Fur Ball
The San Diego Humane Society and SPCA’s 21st annual Fur Ball, titled A Constellation of Canines, honored Madeleine and Boone Pickens. Guests enjoyed dinner by Jeffrey Strauss, dancing, live music, raffle drawings, live and silent auctions, and more to raise funds to help animals and fund vital community programs and services. And unlike most black-tie events, well behaved, on-leash dogs were welcome to attend.

Symphony At Salk
Over 800 people flowed into the annual Salk Institute fundraiser, with its congenial gathering before dinner and the elegant concert by the San Diego Symphony and Hersey Felder on the terrace overlooking the Pacific. Honorary chair Francoise Gilot-Salk wasn’t able to attend, but her art was the cover for the event’s program. Irwin Jacobs helped open the ceremonies, and many trustees were there, along with creative director Mel Yoakum and members of the event’s committee. — Sparkle Stiff, photos by Jennifer Nelson
