Getting Style With A Little Help From Some Friends
On September 21, The Country Friends will again partner with South Coast Plaza at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe for The Art of Fashion 2006 runway show, their largest fundraising event of the year, and also one of the largest outdoor fashion shows on the West Coast. All proceeds raised from this year's event, chaired by Shandra Wilson, will be donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County. Guests will enjoy a festive lunch, boutique shopping, and a cutting-edge fashion show featuring looks by Celine, Christian Dior, Donna Karan, Gucci, Roberto Cavalli, Saks Fifth Avenue, Valentino, and Yves Saint Laurent. Rare Earth Fashion Luncheon
There's nothing like fine food and fashion. The Rare Earth and TRE know this, and recently partnered with Paradise Grille in Flower Hill Promenade to host a fashion show and luncheon on the beautiful patio of the restaurant. In addition to a tasty lunch, guests also feasted their eyes on featured designs — including jewelry and accessories — from such lines as Hale Bob, Sanctuary, Laundry, Love and Liberty, and Sue Wong, among others. — Mia Stefanko

Fashion For Hope
The Weisz Estate in Poway was the setting for the recent Fashion For Hope Extravaganza that benefited the San Diego Family Justice Center. Fashionistas enjoyed a day of fabulous fashions provided by Rock 'n Tumble Boutique and online retailer Fashion Chateau, which featured pieces from Adina, C&C, BCBG, DaNang, Antik Denim, Trunk, Nicole Miller, Jill Stuart, and more. Raffle items included www.FashionChateau.com gift certificates as well gift baskets from local businesses that donated services and goods. While guests shopped, models gave inspiration by showing off pieces and outfit ideas, changing every half hour. Thirty percent of proceeds, as well as thirty percent of online store proceeds throughout the weekend benefit the Operation for Hope Auxiliary, which supports the San Diego Family Justice Center and Camp Hope in helping hurting families in the San Diego community. — Jane Shiomi

Dress Like A Rockstar
It is often said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If so, then the new Backstage Clothing in Del Mar is the perfect boutique for finding looks that pay tribute to music legends and present-day rockstars. The store was created out of owner Jackie Privett's desire to showcase the relationship between rock and roll and its influence on fashion. (Privett's daughter, Nicole, is co-owner.) Featured lines include the Jimi Hendrix Collection, run by his sister Janie, which offers a variety of shirts with Hendrix's famed tapestry guitar strap pattern on the collar facings and others with song lyrics embroidered in the singer's own handwriting; a line by Cedella Marley, daughter of Bob Marley, which offers T-shirts and tanks with Marley's image; and men's shirts by Carlos Santana, along with high-heeled women's shoes. Iconic guitar brand Fender offers casual shoes and a line of embroidered western shirts perfect for Johnny Cash fans. The list goes on and includes items from motocross star Carey Hart, Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, Beyonce, and Macy Gray, who uses her birth name, Natalie McIntyre, for her designs. Fat Free Jewelry
With everything that life throws at you, the last thing you need is for your jewelry to be weighing you down. Enter Fat Free by CiCi, a new jewelry line by San Diego-based designer Aylin Gould that features feather-light pieces that are high on fashion and low on weight. The line was actually created while Gould prepared her handbag line, CiCi by Aylin, for a trade show in early 2006. She began to play with leftover leather scraps, and, as Gould explains, "I started cutting different shapes and applied leftover Swarovski crystal and the first pair of Fat Free by CiCi feather earrings were born." Three weeks later, the collection grew to six styles and four color-ways. The premier collection soon launched with four earring silhouettes — Peacock, Angel Wings, Double Angel Wings, and Wings of Love. For the fall/holiday 2006, Gould is also introducing bracelets and rings to complement the existing earrings. Fat Free by CiCi is available online and locally at Gracie and Ooh La La boutiques.
