Join The Movement

The Movement Initiative is a Brooklyn-born, San Diego-based contemporary dance company that strives to remove dance from its typical venue and interconnect a larger demographic by making movement accessible to all.

Since their arrival from New York, co-directors Caryn Glass and Ami Ipapo have been making a splash in the San Diego dance scene with their athletic, innovative choreography and groundbreaking movement film work.

The Movement Initiative is currently seeking sponsors for its latest production, Victor Charlie, which premieres this July at the 2014 San Diego International Fringe Festival. A dance drama set to the music of The Lumineers,Victor Charlie tells the story of a young man drafted at the start of the Vietnam War and the struggles he encounters, living in a time when tradition was paramount and self-discovery was unthinkable. This dynamic show, performing July 3-12 at RAW Off-Broadway, a brand new secret space housed inside the historic Spreckels Theater, packs a punch with an incredible cast of 14, featuring the talents of Chantalle Herrera and Martin Anthony Dorado. A portion of the box office proceeds from Victor Charlie will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization dedicated to the needs of injured service members.

The community is invited to make a one time tax-deductible donation, or become a VIP Supporter and sign up for an annual contribution of $100, to help enable this promising new company to continue creating dance work in San Diego for years to come. (www.wedaretomove.com)
