San Diego North Coast Singers
For over two decades, the North Coast Singers has been bolstering youth musical arts in San Diego County with enchanting concerts and music appreciation programs that foster both leadership and performance techniques in children. The organization was founded in 1993 by Sally Husch Dean as an alternative to then floundering public school programs. Known as the Youth Chorus, the community outreach program was part of the San Dieguito Methodist Church in Encinitas, specializing in bringing musical literacy to children. Today it has grown into a choral arts group of over 100 children that has performed all over the country, from UC San Diego to Carnegie Hall, and even internationally.

The organization is comprised of five main choruses that provide a musical outlet for children of all ages, including Giocoso, which introduces the joy of choral singing to 20 beginning singers in grades 2-5. Brioso is the intermediate choir featuring 40 voices in grades 4-8, still directed by Sally Husch Dean and accompanied by Ronél Wishnuff. Caprice is the advanced tour ensemble of the San Diego North Coast Singers. Capella is a mixed-voice chamber choir for high school-age singers. Sorelle is one of the more recent additions in the form of a 16-voice select chamber ensemble. And lastly, Ragazzi Del Coro is an all new boys choir launched under the direction of La Jolla Symphony Chorus conductor, David Chase.

Members learn a range of skills under the tutelage of San Diego’s most accomplished music teachers. Voice coaching, teamwork skills, cultural awareness, and an opportunity to grow within the program, from beginner to advanced groups, are just some of the goals of the North Coast Singers. Former members have gone on to professional music careers, both performing and teaching.

The San Diego North Coast Singers put on a wealth of concerts each year, all over the county, with something for everyone to enjoy. Upcoming concerts include Capella Disneyland in January, Sing! San Diego in March, the San Marcos Lutheran Concert Series in April, and the all choir Spring Concert in May.
