California Tower Tour

When guests climb to the eighth floor of the California Tower at Balboa Park’s Museum of Man, they encounter a spectacular view of the Park and America’s Finest City. To reach the viewing deck, visitors ascend a staircase that has been hidden from the public for many years. Starting with the steps at the California Plaza, there are 157 to 164 steps to the eighth floor (depending upon which stairs are taken). At the viewing deck, a sunny landing reveals a breathtaking scene with 360-degree views. To the north, glimpse the San Diego Zoo, North Park water tower, and the northeast Cuyamaca Mountains. The south offers the beautiful Coronado Bridge, Mexico’s Coronado Islands, and Otay Mesa. Then, to the east, take in Balboa Park against the backdrop of the Laguna Mountains as well as San Miguel Mountain. Finally, look to the west to see the treasured Cabrillo Bridge, Point Loma, San Diego Bay, and the Pacific Ocean. 619.239.2001, museumofman.org/
