Red Shoe Day

Jun. 23

From 6:30-9:30am, Red Shoe Day volunteers holding signs and wearing wacky costumes will occupy 225 intersections throughout San Diego County collecting cash donations into iconic, giant red shoes to raise funds to support families caring for hospitalized children. Those interested in becoming a volunteer must register before Monday, June 13. San Diegans who are unable to volunteer on June 23 can donate that morning at Red Shoe Day intersections or in McDonald’s restaurants from June 5-26. Community members can also participate online by creating a personal fundraising page to collect donations from friends, family, and colleagues. redshoedaysd.com

Red Shoe DayFounded in 1980, Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego provides a “home away from home” to families with children being treated for serious, often life-threatening conditions at local hospitals. San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House was specifically designed to provide the necessities of home — including 47 bedrooms, a kitchen, and a children’s play area — so families can focus their attention on supporting their sick or injured child instead of worrying about day-to-day needs. The House’s Family Care Center allows anyone with a child in an area hospital, not just overnight guests, to use a range of services, including meals, enrichment activities, computer access, recreational facilities, and more. The Ronald McDonald House creates an emotional and physical sanctuary for nearly 15,000 family members each year. rmhcsd.org
