In a world dominated by Apple and Samsung mobile devices, Alcatel is hoping to woo customers by offering an enticing add-on to its phone: a virtual reality headset. Similar to the Samsung Gear VR unit, Alcatel’s Idol 4S will feature an octa-core Snapdragon 652 CPU, 3GB of RAM and a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED display. A set of touch controls will adorn the bottom of the headgear, and a fingerprint sensor on the rear will be used for accessing apps and payment options. Dual JBL speakers and a 16-megapixel, 360-degree camera will make capturing memories a breeze. It will come prepackaged with the Android 6.01 Marshmallow operating system, with upgrading capabilities. While it won’t outsell the iPhone or Galaxy, it is an interesting, entertaining choice for anyone in the market for a VR-based mobile experience. Currently available for pre-order, $399. alcatelonetouch.us
