Our Changing Seas

January 26-March 23, 2019 | Lux Art Institute

Lux Art Institute’s third artist-in-residence of Season 12, Courtney Mattison, is passionate about what lives in the ocean and is fascinated with the diverse world of the coral reefs. As an artist and activist, Mattison’s detailed ceramic coral reef installations start off with vibrant colors and spiral out to solid white. The haunting beauty of the white corals refers to the bleaching of the coral reefs, representing the skeletal remnants left behind by warming oceans. Mattison will be in the studio January 26 through February 23, with her Our Changing Seas series on view through March 23. An opening reception takes place January 25. 760.436.6611, luxartinstitute.org
